HDFC Bank’s advances rise 62.4% to Rs 24.69 lakh cr in Q3

HDFC Bank’s deposits grow 27.7% YoY to Rs 22.14 lakh crore as of 31 December 2023, from Rs 17.33 lakh crore a year ago. 

HDFC Bank’s loan book expanded 62.4% to Rs 24.69 lakh crore in the fiscal third quarter ended December 2023 compared to Rs 15.20 lakh crore a year ago.

On a sequential basis, the bank’s gross advances grew 4.9% from Rs 23.55 lakh crore as of 30 September.

Grossing up for transfers through inter-bank participation certificates and bills rediscounted, the bank’s advances grew by around 60.7% over December 31, 2022 and around 3.8% over September 30, 2023, HDFC Bank said in a regulatory filing.

Domestic retail loans jumped 111% year-on-year and around 3% quarter-on-quarter. 

Corporate and other wholesale loans (excluding non-individual loans of the erstwhile HDFC Limited) grew 11% YoY and around 3% sequentially. Commercial & rural banking loans grew by 6.5%.

HDFC Bank’s deposits grew 27.7% YoY to Rs 22.14 lakh crore as of 31 December 2023, from Rs 17.33 lakh crore a year ago. On a QoQ basis, it grew 1.9%.

Retail deposits increased by 2.9%, while wholesale deposits declined 3.4%, QoQ.

HDFC Bank said that the figures for the period ended 31 December 2023, however, include the operations of erstwhile HDFC, which amalgamated with and into HDFC Bank on 1 July 2023, and hence are not comparable with those of the corresponding period of the previous year.

HDFC Bank's current account savings account (CASA) deposits touched Rs 8.35 lakh crore as of 31 December 2023, growing by 9.5% from Rs 7.63 lakh crore a year ago. Retail CASA grew by 10% YoY and by 2.3% QoQ.

The bank's CASA ratio stood at around 37.7% as of 31 December 2023, compared to 44% a year ago and 37.6% a quarter ago.
