Government extends SBI chairman Dinesh Khara’s tenure

Dinesh Kumar Khara, the chairman of State Bank of India, gets an extension till August next year.
The government has also granted a two-year extension to the bank's managing director Ashwini Kumar Tewari.
In a notification issued Thursday, the government said that it “hereby extends the term of office of Shri Dinesh Kumar Khara, chairman, State Bank of India beyond 6.10.2023 till he attains the age of 63 years, or until further orders, whichever is earlier".
The regulatory norm allows the SBI chairman to serve until the age of 63.
Born on 28 August 1961, Khara succeeded Rajnish Kumar to be chairman of the country's largest bank on 7 October 2020 for a period of three years. His current term expires on 6 October.
Tewari's two-year extension will be effective from 28 January 2024.
