Satyanarayana Raju is new MD & CEO of Canara Bank

Satyanarayana Raju replaces LV Prabhakar as MD & CEO of Canara Bank; Hardeep Singh Ahluwalia takes over as ED.

K Satyanarayana Raju has taken guard as the managing director and chief executive officer of Canara Bank. He replaces LV Prabhakar who retired from the services of the bank on December 31, 2022.  

Raju had earlier served as the executive director of the bank since March 10, 2021. Prior to that, he was the chief general manager of Bank of Baroda.

“Raju is a field person, believes in being close to the people and working as a team. He is also focused on technology so you will see a lot of initiatives in this area. Since he has served as ED of Canara Bank for almost two years, it helped him study the bank. He has all the qualities to don the mantle of a leader who can take forward the rich legacy of Canara Bank,” said a senior officer of Canara Bank who did not want his name to be quoted.

 A physics graduate, post graduate in Business Administration (Banking and Finance) and CAIIB (Certified Associate of Indian Institute of Bankers), Raju began his career in 1988 when he joined Vijaya Bank. After the merger with Bank of Baroda, he was one of the few officers from Vijaya Bank who rose up the ranks to be the executive director of the bank.

During his 33 years in banking, Raju has headed various branches for 12 years, including the specialised corporate banking branch. He served as the regional head of Shimoga, Vijayawada, Hyderabad and Mumbai. He was also the zonal head of Mumbai zone, which is the biggest zone of the bank. He has also headed the operations and services department at the head office.

He has wide experience in branch banking, corporate credit, retail credit, agri financing, credit monitoring, credit recovery, compliance etc. Also, his rich experience and exposure led to digital transformation of banking products and services.

 Hardeep Singh Ahluwalia takes over as ED of Canara Bank

Canara bank has also got a new executive director. Hardeep Singh Ahluwalia moves in from Indian Bank where he was heading the corporate recovery department as general manager.

 Ahluwalia started his career in 1992 as an agriculture officer in Allahabad Bank, which is now merged with Indian Bank.

He has more than three decades of experience in various functional areas of banking system like rural, semi-urban/urban and metro geographies in India. 

Ahluwalia was also working in Hong Kong as head of the bank’s international branch. He has also served as zonal head, Chandigarh. As the president of Indian cultural and sports committee, he has contributed to the sports arena.

”His proven ability to build productive teams and deliver exceptional results was reflected in all his assignments. As an avid learner, he has attended various training programmes and completed Leadership Development Programme of IIM, Bangalore, curated by Banks Board Bureau in consultation with IBA,” said a release from Canara Bank.
