Bank of Baroda withdraws auction notice to sell Sunny Deol’s Juhu villa

Bank of Baroda, which had put actor and MP Sunny Deol’s villa in Mumbai’s Juhu locality for sale to recover a loan of Rs 56 crore, has withdrawn the notice.

Bank of Baroda, which had put actor and Member of Parliament Sunny Deol’s villa in Mumbai’s Juhu locality for sale to recover a loan of Rs 56 crore, has withdrawn the notice.

In a corrigendum issued by the state-owned bank, it said that the notice for the e-auction has been withdrawn due to "technical reasons".

Bank of Baroda had put up the auction notice on Sunday.

However, in a corrigendum on Monday the bank stated: “Corrigendum to e-auction sale notice dated 19.08.2023 published in The Times of India Mumbai edition dated 20.08.2023 with regards to sale notice in respect of Mr. Ajay Sing Deol Alias Mr. Sunny Deol stands withdrawn due to technical reasons for the below mentioned Property : All that piece and parcel of land bearing survey No. 41 Hissa No 5 (Pt) CTS No. 173 of village Juhu taluka Andheri Mumbai suburban Dist, Ad measuring 599.44 Sq Mtrs underneath a structure known as Sunny Villa situated at Gandhigram Road Juhu Mumbai 400049.”

Deol, who is BJP MP from Gurdaspur, has defaulted on a Rs 55.99 crore loan and interest and penalty since 26 December 2022.

The bank had set the reserve price for the e-auction at Rs 51.43 crore and an earnest money deposit of Rs 5.14 crore, as per the initial public notice.

Apart from Sunny Villa, the 599.44 square metre property also houses Sunny Sounds, which is owned by the Deols, and is the corporate guarantor to the loan.  Actor-politician father Dharmendra is the personal guarantor of the debt, according to the auction notice.

The Deols still have the option of clearing the dues to the bank to prevent the auction to be carried out under the provisions of the Sarfaesi Act of 2002, as per the bank’s notice.

The auction notice was issued by Bank of Baroda's zonal stressed asset recovery branch, Ballard Estate, Mumbai.

Deol, whose latest movie Gaddar 2 has already grossed over Rs 300 crore at the box office, is officially known as Ajay Singh Deol.
