Digital thrust and linking post offices to core banking

Interlinking of all 1.5 lakh post offices on core banking system to be completed in 2022; 75 digital banking units to be set up in 75 districts;

To continue to push for digital banking and digital payments, the government has proposed that scheduled commercial banks will set up 75 Digital Banking Units (DBUs) in 75 districts across the country, to mark the 75th year of India’s independence.

The government will continue to provide the same level of support as in the 2021-22 budget, to the digital payment ecosystem. It expects this support to encourage further adoption of digital payments, that are economical and user- friendly.

As part of the same effort, interlinking of all the 1.5 lakh post offices on a core banking system will be completed in 2022, enabling financial inclusion and access to accounts through net banking, mobile banking, ATMs, and also provide online transfer of funds between post office accounts and other bank accounts.

The linking of post offices will be particularly of help to people in rural areas.
