Govt extends tenure of chiefs of Bank of Baroda and Bank of India

Bank of Baroda MD & CEO Debadatta Chand and Rajneesh Karnatak, head of Bank of India, get three-year extension; UCO Bank MD and CEO Ashwani Kumar yet to get govt approval.


The chiefs of Bank of Baroda and Bank of India will have an extended run for another three years. 

The government has extended the tenure of Debadatta Chand, managing director and CEO of Bank of Baroda, for three years, effective 1 July 2026.

The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has also approved the extension of Rajneesh Karnatak, MD and CEO of Bank of India, for three years, effective 29 April 2026.

Karnatak was appointed as MD and CEO of the bank in 2023 for three years.

The government, however, has not yet taken a view on extension with regard to UCO Bank MD and CEO Ashwani Kumar, whose three-year term is also coming to an end on 1 June 2026.

The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet has also extended the term of Ashutosh Choudhary as executive director of Indian Bank for another three years.
