HDFC Bank begins probe into senior-level ‘leaks’

HDFC Bank has initiated an internal probe into the alleged leak of confidential information by two of its senior executives.

HDFC Bank has initiated an internal probe into the alleged leak of confidential information by two of its senior executives.

The probe will also look into whether the information disclosed was misused.

An internal review into this matter is currently underway to gather and evaluate all relevant facts, an HDFC Bank spokesperson said.

The bank will take appropriate action based on the findings once the review is complete.

The suspected leaks could relate to differences between outgoing managing director and CEO Sashidhar Jagdishan and former chairman Atanu Chakrborty, payments to the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) and mis-selling of Credit Suisse’s AT-1 bonds to diaspora clients from its Dubai DIFC branch. All these issues had landed the bank into controversies and led to the slide of its shares on the stock exchanges.

The probe would look into how such sensitive information came out into the public domain.

The internal review comes a week before former head of ICICI Prudential Life Anup Bagchi takes charge of the bank, replacing Jagdishan and becoming the first ‘outsider’ CEO.
