HDFC Bank extends Keki Mistry’s term as interim chairman

RBI approves extension of Keki Mistry's tenure as interim chairman at HDFC Bank for three months till 18 September.

HDFC Bank on Thursday said the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the extension of Keki Mistry's tenure as interim chairman for three months till 18 September.

Mistry, a veteran of the HDFC group, was brought in as the interim chairman on 18 March to provide stability to the bank following the resignation of non-executive chairman Atanu Chakraborty.

Chakraborty had resigned from the bank citing that certain practices within the bank over the last two years were not in "congruence" with his "personal values and ethics".

In a regulatory filing, HDFC Bank said it had received communication from the RBI on 18 June granting approval for Mistry’s extension for three months until 18 September 2026 or till appointment of a regular part-time chairman, whichever is earlier.

Mistry previously served as CEO of mortgage lender Housing Development Finance Corp Ltd (HDFC Ltd) prior to its amalgamation with HDFC Bank in 2023.
