Inflation inches up to 2.1% in August

India’s retail inflation inched up to 2.07% in August from an eight-year low of 1.55% in the preceding month, driven by price increases in vegetables, meat and fish.


India’s retail inflation inched up to 2.07% in August from an eight-year low of 1.55% in the preceding month, driven by price increases in vegetables, meat and fish.

This is the seventh straight month when inflation has stayed below the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) 4% medium-term target but is marginally higher from the tolerance range of 2% at the lower band. 

The inflation based on consumer price index (CPI) was 3.65% in August 2024.
