RBI approves Mahesh Muralidhar Pai’s appointment as MD and CEO of South Indian Bank for three years, effective 1 October; he is currently CGM at Canara Bank.
Mahesh Muralidhar Pai will become the new managing director and CEO of South Indian Bank.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved Pai’s appointment as the new boss of the Kerala-based private sector lender for a period of three years, effective 1 October.
Pai is currently the chief general manager at Canara Bank, spearheading the state-owned lender’s digital banking and innovation.
South Indian Bank said in a regulatory filing that Pai’s appointment will be placed before the board in its meeting on 16 July and shareholders' approval will be obtained thereafter.
A veteran banker with close to three decades of experience, Pai has handled Canara Bank’s multiple strategic initiatives, including setting up of gold loan vertical and heading one of their largest zones.
He has had experience across governance, strategy, treasury, foreign exchange, retail, agriculture and MSME credit.
“Pai is recognised for his strategic clarity, execution excellence, integrity, and strong industry relationships with banking and technology partners,” South Indian Bank said in a regulatory filing.
