No OTP required for auto-debit transactions of up to Rs 15,000

For auto-transactions up to Rs 15,000, customers will not have to authenticate such payments through a one-time password; earlier, this was Rs 5,000.

For auto-transactions up to Rs 15,000, customers will not have to authenticate such payments through a one-time password (OTP).

Earlier, the limit on the amount of recurring transactions that could be made without additional factor authentication such as OTP was fixed at Rs 5,000. By hiking the cap for auto-debit mandates through cards and UPI, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has made it hassle-free and convenient for customers to facilitate payments of larger value like subscriptions, insurance premia, education fee, utility bills and EMIs.

As per RBI, over 6.25 crore mandates have been registered under this framework in favour of a large number of domestic and over 3,400 international merchants.
