Ravi Ranjan appointed MD of SBI

Ravi Ranjan will oversee key portfolios including risk management, compliance and stressed assets; Vinay Tonse had completed his term as MD on 30 November.

State Bank of India (SBI) has appointed Ravi Ranjan as its managing director.

Ranjan filled up the position which was vacant after Vinay M Tonse completed his term on 30 November. Prior to this, he was deputy managing director at SBI.

Ranjan assumed charge today, after his appointment was notified by the Department of Financial Services under the Ministry of Finance.

Under the notification, Ranjan will remain in office until his superannuation on September 30, 2028, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Ranjan will now oversee key portfolios including risk management, compliance and the Stressed Assets Resolution Group (SARG).

Ranjan earlier served as deputy managing director for Global Markets for over a year and prior to that, headed the Corporate Accounts Group. He has also held several senior leadership roles within the bank, including chief general manager of SBI’s Chennai Circle, which covers Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

A career banker, Ranjan joined SBI as a probationary officer in 1991 and brings more than three decades of experience across multiple banking and financial services verticals.

The SBI board is headed by the Chairman, assisted by four managing directors.
