The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will soon release an updated list of upper-layer non-banking financial companies (NBFCs).
“The list is there already. So, it continues to be the operational till a new one is put out,” RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra said at the post-policy press conference.
Tata Sons, the holding company of the Tata group, has requested to de-register as an upper-layer NBFC as it would exempt it from the mandatory listing requirement. The deadline for this was September 2025, but the RBI has not officially commented on this request.
The RBI has not released a list of upper-layer NBFCs for the financial year ended March 2026.
