Uday Kotak’s son not in Kotak Mahindra Bank CEO race

“Jay Kotak is still young. He will have to work his way up on merit," Kotak Mahindra Bank whole-time director KVS Manian said.

Kotak Mahindra Bank will not have Uday Kotak’s son in the race to replace him as the next chief executive officer and the board is expected to announce their pick within six months.

After the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) capped tenures for Indian business heads, the Mumbai-based bank started looking for a new CEO to replace Uday Kotak, who led the business since founding it in 1985.

“Jay Kotak is still young. He will have to work his way up on merit," Bloomberg quoted Kotak Mahindra Bank whole-time director KVS Manian as saying in an interview.

The new CEO will guide the bank’s expansion and also push into infrastructure financing, including roads and airports, as well as the transition to renewable energy, Bloomberg reported.

Shorter time frames on refinancing infrastructure assets has increased the appeal of this market, helped by government action to make the investments safer, Bloomberg quoted Manian as saying.

The private lender recently hired Amazon. com Inc. veteran Bhavnish Lathia as chief of customer experience to design and lead the technology of its consumer bank.
