SBI data breach: Hacker claims access to 3.75 lakh customers

Hacker group under name of 'Siriusim' claims to have SBI’s customer information, including records containing loan applications, account-opening documents and addresses.

An anonymous hacker group operating under the name 'Siriusim' has claimed to have obtained confidential customer data of 3.75 lakh State Bank of India (SBI) customers.

The threat actor has claimed to have personal customer information, including records containing loan applications, account-opening documents and addresses.

The claim was flagged by cybersecurity monitoring account CyberPulse56 in a post on social media platform X.

The account said the group purportedly possessed 3,75,000 entries in comma-separated values (CSV) format and 2,722 PDF files.

According to CyberPulse56, the alleged dataset contains personal customer information, residential addresses, loan applications, supporting documents and other application-related records.

The cybersecurity account first reported the claim on 16 October.

CyberPulse56 warned that if the dataset was legitimate, the exposed information could potentially be misused for identity theft, financial fraud, targeted phishing and fraudulent loan applications.

SBI, however, has not made any official statement regarding the breach. The authenticity of the breach claims remains unverified.

Several banks have reported cases of data breaches. In July, Bank of Baroda admitted a data leak that exposed 1TB of customer data.
